Programs

Access to Culturally Congruent Care Teams (ACT)

We help increase access to maternal healthcare support by covering the cost of doula services, midwifery care, therapy, perinatal education and transportation to doctor appointments.  This program provides direct perinatal services to the moms we serve; this includes in person support and education.  This program also fosters the sustainability of Black and Brown birth workers, educators and therapists as we pay them market rate for their services.

Liberated Birth Recovery Fund

The Liberated Birth Recovery Fund is a 10 month program in which we provide working families with paid scholarships. This support includes up to three months of paid leave assistance tailored to each family's needs. The participating families will undergo a 6-week course with mandatory 5-month budget check-ins. After graduating, they can apply to become mentors, fostering a community of care and support.

Supplies for Babies to Thrive

Covering the cost of essential baby items such as diapers, wipes, cribs and feeding supplies to help families and infants thrive.  We give direct cash assistance for these items and partner with the H.E.A.R.T.S. Love Bug Closet in order to cover the cost of essential baby and hygiene items.  This program promotes peace of mind (improved mental health), safe sleeping, optimal infant feeding, hygiene and postpartum recovery.

We Are Family!

We value building relationships with the families we serve to ensure our programming is not merely transactional but also relational.  We offer several family engagement opportunities throughout the year including:

  • Listening Sessions

  • Mama’s Night Out

  • Group Chat

  • Community Events

Advocacy

Equity Before Birth is a member of several committees, councils and boards addressing various early childhood issues that affect women’s health, infant development and birthing processes.  We meet with elected officials and other key stakeholders to influence policy and decisions concerning maternal healthcare, public health and infant development.  We attend advocacy days, present our real world findings and educate decision makers on the impact of decisions on the community.  In 2024, Equity Before Birth has presence on the Durham County Safe Sleep Committee, the Think Babies Alliance Leadership Team, the CandL (Care and Learning Coalition) Leadership Team, the Ms Foundation Pocket Change Research Advisory Council and more.
